Bead Embroidery - Bead Journal Project for February

Oh my goodness, this one was sooooooo much fun!

bead embroidery, bead journal project, Robin AtkinsValentine for Little Robin

My very first thought, as I went to my fabric stash to pick out fabrics for my February BJP, was "It's going to be a valentine for Little Robin!" And so it is!

Who is Little Robin? I don't recall exactly when the concept of having an innocent, playful, sweet inner-being occurred to me. Maybe it was around the time I first read The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron in 1993. At that time I began writing morning pages (journaling) regularly.

Being a former psychology major and trained counselor, I knew the value of role-playing. Somehow, I fell into the practice of written role-playing in my morning pages. I write long conversations with Little Robin. Because she always wants to play, paint, bead and have fun, she has contributed much to my life and my art. I'm a serious and responsible person, who can easily spend too much time working and get too stressed about obligations. In our journaled conversations, she helps me to lighten up a bit!

What do you think? Does she like the valentine I made for her?

Maybe I should get in touch with my little CA so she can help me lighten up a bit!

  5. I don't know about little Robin, but that is the kind of Valentine I would appreciate getting at any age.

Speaking of age, I catch up with you in three weeks, Robin. Does this mean I will be officially grown up? Gad, I hope not.

  8. oh, I love it. I have had a plan for a while to make a necklace with a picture of me as a little kid and the words "beloved" or something to remind me to take care of Little Me.

  9. Being a non morning pages person, I hate, Hated and really hated them although I did them for months! I've not found that works for me. I have a friend here who carries on conversations with her inner child, but I just am not good at role playing. So I generally don't, except in the present time, present tense of talking to myself as I work out a problem. I think it is fascinating for people who can and do use this technique and I love 'listening' in so to speak. So, I'm sure little Robin loves the valentine. I'm also glad to hear one of your big tasks, the book, is at the printers! Yea!

  13. A beautiful page, Robin. I get a lot of inspiration and insight from my inner child, too. A piece like this is truly a gift for the child within you who loves to play.

And congratulations on the book! I have a couple of your books already and am looking forward to ordering this one, too. You're an inspiration for us all. Thank you for your time and your encouragement.

  14. Oh, hearts and flowers! This is so beautiful and sweetly sentimental without being too, too sweet. I don't have an inner child - I find that I have an inner adult always telling me to calm down and straighten up, be responsible and quit having so much fun. XD But I'm sure Little Robin loves this valentine and will keep in with her precious treasures.

  15. It's a beautiful valentine. My dad used to give my mother beautiful valentines. He would have been proud to give her one like this. I love the little shelf under the heart. It makes it grounded. Looks like Little Robin is well taken care of.
